MEET AMERICA‘S ’53%’ – AND THEY HAVE A MESSAGE FOR THE ‘99%’ PROTESTERS

The 53% is a group of responsible young people organizing across the country. However, this group is not camping out in parks around the country and demanding the entire capitalist system be destroyed. These men and women have jobs (most of them work at more than one job in order to make ends meet), but they are talking about attending the Minneapolis Occupy Wall St. protest scheduled for today – Friday, October 7th.

…because when libertarians and conservatives run out of intelligent ways to knock the 99% down, they resort to nasty little messages.

So, like, when you’re, like, community organizing for solidarity and stuff, it’s totally cool to have this little hashtaggy thingy when you’re on twitter, so other people, like, totally know what you’re talking about and stuff. So if you’re, like, totally gonna spread the word about being one of the 53% of people who actually, like, pay taxes in America and don’t just, like, hang out protesting stuff all day… like, here’s the hashtaggy thingy. See you at the protest!   #iamthe53

I can’t even begin to handle this right now. However, I will say this:

Stop whining? Stop whining? We’re not whining, we’re acting! We’re paying taxes with what little money we have!

  • GE’s not paying, though. But they’re not whining, no, they’re just turning a profit! (Source)
  • The precious 1%’s tax breaks cost us $42 billion this past year. All that bitching about not being able to afford what we needed? All those schools and hospitals that got cut? CUT THE FUCKING TAX BREAKS.

Let me explain something to you, friends. This economy is built on consumer debt. It thrives on consumer debt. The perfect consumer never pays their debt back in its entirety. Without debt, this economy would fall apart, because debt turns a profit.

People.

Before.

Profits.

Y’know working more than one job to make ends meet isn’t something to celebrate
It’s not a measure of being a proper contributer to society/adult
It’s wrong
it indicates a broken system
We are not supposed to have to work two jobs JUST to make ends meet!!
Seriously??
I mean fucking seriously with this shit??

All I know is that there should not be people with gold-plated door fastenings on the same planet that children die of starvation on.

This reminds me of a day in psych class a few years ago; where we were administered a ‘morality test’. The scenario given was that a woman was dying of a disease, and there was someone with a cure- who wouldn’t give it to her, or most other people, because she couldn’t afford the high premium he was asking for the medication. The question was posed ‘what would you do’.

I remember feeling very awkward for the rest of that class, because I was the only one- and I did get somewhat vocal about it because I couldn’t believe I was alone on it- who would break into the house, steal the medication, and give it to the woman (as well as make the formula public knowledge if possible). Why? The reason should be fucking obvious! It’s not a matter of ‘but that’s against the law’. It’s not a matter of ‘he has the freedom to charge what he wants for his invention’. No. NO. There are LIVES at stake. LIVES are more important than petty greed. The REASON laws exist- ideologically speaking- is to offer protection of the populace. In practice, however, a law is simply the ensconced public opinion of the time. Opinion can be WRONG.

If there aren’t people in the world who are willing to suffer, go to jail or whatnot putting their own liberties on the line to protect the lives of other people, what the fuck are we as a species? Is this how important money has become to us? The love of money- though I would say, more specifically, the love of self-elevation and prestige- is the root of all evil. By allowing these behaviours to perpetuate, you are complicit with this modality, in my opinion. Should something occur near me in my lifetime, rest assured that I will take action, and I will not for one moment regret it.
